摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the sociobiology of pinnipeds. The social life many Pinnipeds develops only during breeding period. small islands or pack-ice where pupping takes place constitute a particularly simple biotope. Predators are generally absent and availability food is no direct consequence, since majority species fast this ecological parameters that determine extreme diversity structure among these mammals appear to be limited in number easier than those for other zoological groups. consist three families: walrus Odebenidae; sea lions fur seals Otariidae; Phocidae. All Otariidae form harems and, incidently, they all breed on land. In contrast, seals, which can extremely varied substrata, exhibit varying structures. female alone responsible rearing young Pinnipeds. necessary condition appearance polygyny, but cannot solely it. tendency toward polygyny course not peculiar group, quite widespread mammals. related secondary role males young.
