摘要: Abstract Objective: To examine the relation of midlife raised blood pressure and serum cholesterol concentrations to Alzheimer9s disease in later life. Design: Prospective, population based study. Setting: Populations Kuopio Joensuu, eastern Finland. Participants: Participants were derived from random, samples previously studied a survey carried out 1972, 1977, 1982, or 1987. After an average 21 years9 follow up, total 1449 (73%) participants aged 65–79 took part re-examination 1998. Main outcome measures: Midlife development Results: People with systolic (≥160 mm Hg) high concentration (≥6.5 mmol/l) had significantly higher risk life, even after adjustment for age, body mass index, education, vascular events, smoking status, alcohol consumption, than those normal (odds ratio 2.3, 95% confidence interval 1.0 5.5) 2.1, 4.4). both these factors developing either alone 3.5, 1.6 7.9). Diastolic no significant effect on disease. Conclusion: Raised concentration, particular combination risks, increase What is already known this topic Vascular may play important as No studies have evaluated prospectively impact men women subsequent study adds increased life hypercholesterolaemia role pathogenesis disease; more emphasis should be placed identification appropriate treatment conditions
