摘要: Automation liberates scientific staff from repetitive tasks, decreases the probability of human error and consequently enhances reproducibility lab experiments. However, use laboratory automation in academic laboratories is limited due to high acquisition costs inability customize off-the-shelf hardware. To address these challenges, we present an Open Source Hardware concept, referred as OpenWorkstation, build assembly line-inspired platform consisting ready-to-use customizable modules. In contrast current standalone solutions, OpenWorkstation concept enables combination single hardware modules – each with a specific set functionalities modular workstation provide fully automated setup. The base setup consists pipetting transport module designed execute basic protocol steps for vitro research applications, including operations liquids viscous substances transportation cell culture vessels between We demonstrate successful application this within case study by development storage facilitate high-throughput studies photo-crosslinker initiate photo-induced polymerization hydrogel solutions. Systems Engineering framework customized development, guidance design presented modules, operational instructions on usage workstation. By combining capabilities various open source instrumentations into technology platform, will efficient reliable experimentation research. Ultimately, allow groups improve replicability process towards more economical innovative future.
