摘要: Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) was first described as a secreted product of human fetal retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells in culture with potent neuronal differentiating activity on retinoblastoma Y-79 cells.1 It reported that PEDF at nanomolar concentrations induces morphological differentiation cells, characterized by the elongation neurite-like processes and expression markers, e.g., neuron-specific enolase 200-kDa neurofilament subunit.2 shown later can also induce from another retinoblastoma, Weri cells.3 While its role vivo retina is not known yet, origin these activities suggest may play neurotrophic for retina. In this regard, evidence effects neurons CNS PNS accumulating rapidly supports notion multipotent acts upon various types different species. For example, it promotes survival rat cerebellar granule cell (CGC) culture,4 including protection against glutamate neurotoxicity5 both natural induced apoptosis vitro;6 developing avian murine spinal motor neurons.7 Given important biological PEDF, interest to investigate mechanism action Therefore, overall objective review will be discuss biochemistry context potential use relevant
