Postoperative Chemotherapy Prior to Radiotherapy in the Combined Treatment of Medulloblastoma, Ependymoma and Tumours of the Pineal Region: Early Results

摘要: Medulloblastoma, ependymoma and tumours of the pineal region occur mainly in children young adults tend to spread through subarachnoid space. If radiation therapy (RT) takes this tendency into account a major part these can be cured by meticulous technique. Recurrence within primary tumour is responsible for failure cure about half cases [2, 8, 9]. Therefore improve results intensification treatment seems necessary. Cure rates well above 50% are reported medulloblastomas few small series using diligent surgical technique precise RT [3, 4, 11]. Comparable obtained with additional chemotherapy (ChT) [5, 12]. Besides improving survival combination operation, ChT should also reduce undesirable side-effects 7, 10] reducing dose.
