摘要: . Purpose: To evaluate the effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with verteporfin on symptomatic, aggressive retinal astrocytomas. Methods: A prospective, interventional study in a tertiary referral centre. Two patients were treated single session PDT using standard parameters Verteporfin Photodynamic Therapy (VIP) study: 34-year-old man whose previously stationary juxtapapillary astrocytoma, secondary to tuberous sclerosis, progressed within 7 months involve foveola; and 68-year-old acquired astrocytoma over 18 months spite photocoagulation. Both tumours vascularized had caused lipid exudation an exudative detachment. Outcome measures visual acuity, resorption subretinal fluid, tumour height fluorescein angiography. Results: The progressing, part both astrocytomas regressed, little change poorly vascularized, congenital hamartoma. Visual acuity improved first patient was unchanged second by 3 months, stable vision no sign recurrence at 2 years. detachments resolved completely. Tumour reduced median 30%. Regression associated obliteration vessels progressing lesion, closure some dilated capillaries tumour. Intraretinal microvascular abnormalities scattered haemorrhages appeared outside area patient. Conclusion: can induce regression progressive, may prevent typical progression total detachment enucleation, whether is sclerosis or not. be considered first-line treatment for astrocytomas.
