Mesostigmatophyceae, a New Class of Streptophyte Green Algae Revealed by SSU rRNA Sequence Comparisons

摘要: Complete nuclear-encoded SSU rRNA sequences have been obtained from three taxa of streptophyte green algae (Klebsormidium nitens, Nitella capillaris, Chaetosphaeridium globosum) and two strains the scaly flagellate Mesostigma viride. Phylogenetic analyses 70 Viridiplantae (Chlorophyta Streptophyta) 57 embryophyte plants using distance, parsimony likelihood methods revealed a novel monophyletic lineage among Streptophyta comprising genera Chaetosphaeridium. This is described here as Mesostigmatophyceae classis nova. Our demonstrate that (1) flagellates (prasinophytes) are polyphyletic, (2) member forms clade with oogamous, filamentous to exclusion all other known algae, (3) previously published sequence (AF113506) chimeric contains part fungal rRNA, (4) phylogenetic relationships between remain unresolved by comparisons.
