Diet of a nesting pair of Long-eared Owls, Asio otus, in an urban environment in southwestern Turkey (Aves: Strigidae)

摘要: Pellets were collected under an active Long-eared Owl (Asio otus) nest in the city centre of Denizli, Turkey. The was located a conifer tree 5.7 ha urban park, centrally-located with human population 577,000 people. During April-June 2014, total 64 pellets containing remains 86 individual prey items found. All Passeriformes and consisted two species belonging to Passeridae Hirundinidae. 78 (90.7%) House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) other eight (9.3%) Martin (Delichon urbicum). This is one first studies indicate that Owl's nesting season diet consists entirely birds. main factor affecting this result probably fact owls live urbanised setting.
