摘要: Three typical plant taxa from the fossil assemblage of 290-million-year-old Chemnitz Petrified Forest (Zeisigwald Tuff Horizon, Leukersdorf Formation) were studied with regard to microstructure petrifactions: samples tree fern Psaronius sp., seed Medullosa stellata, and gymnosperm Dadoxylon sp. The plant’s tissues are anatomically preserved by silica exhibiting different crystalline order other mineralisations. Specimens means electron backscatter imaging diffraction in a scanning microscope. cell walls largely quartz crystals, lumina cryptocrystalline silica. former organisation chemical composition vascular tissue mirrored varying grain formation size. Results discussed terms extant xylem wall showing highly hydrophilic cellulose hemicellulose cross-linked hydrophobic lignin. effect polar non-polar wood components on precipitation aqueous solution crystals is convincing, reported results provide better understanding how replaced organic matter during petrifaction process.
