摘要: Young Muslims in Britain are increasingly required to navigate an unsettled social, religious and cultural landscape. These complex dynamics encompass a range of factors: from sectarianism the global marketplace Islamic knowledge, through the influence diverse ethnic communities, ubiquity popular culture, late-modern discourses relating spirituality religion. Religious practice, identity formation and social/cultural relationships therefore continual process (re)negotiation, with young often adopting highly reflexive pragmatic approaches this uncertainty. Emerging from this turbulent context is vibrant Muslim music culture. This thesis provides ethnographic account culture – through engagement with both musicians fans whilst furthermore analysing deeper significance production contemporary Britain. The observations and arguments throughout based on extensive fieldwork that took place over period of approximately two years. A number methodological strategies were employed: these included interviewing, participant observation various online research methodologies (including survey). While provided original timely contribution study Britain, there broader theoretical implications to emerge. In particular, concepts ‘Islamic Music’ ‘Islamicallyconscious music’ developed better understand how varyingly emphasise their individual subjectivity more collectivist sense religious belonging.
