摘要: -Gray wolves (Canis lupus) were extirpated in North and South Dakota the 1920-1930s rarely reported from mid-1940s to late 1970s. From 1981 1992, 10 killed Dakotas, five of them 1991-1992. Mortality sites 46-561 km nearest known wolf population, four within a single 1175 km2 area. Eight animals ?2 years old, suggesting dispersing individuals. occurred agrarian prairie areas with mean road densities 0.71 km/km2 human 3.5/km2. Habitat at mortality was radically different where these apparently originated, demonstrating extreme flexibility dispersal behavior wolves. Further increase occurrences Dakotas is likely, related population increases range expansion adjacent states provinces, especially Minnesota.
