摘要: BACKGROUND There is an increasing incidence of advanced unresectable gallbladder cancer even in patients who undergo re-exploration and these cases are marked by poor survival after undergoing curative resection adjuvant chemotherapy. Lack suspicion during primary surgery, unavailability frozen section facilities delayed referrals believed to contribute this high incidence. AIM Our aim was evaluate the results re-surgery incidental cancers detected open or laparoscopic cholecystectomy assess outcome underwent complete radical therapy. METHOD We retrospectively analyzed data from a prospectively maintained computerized database all with incidentally operated Department Surgical Oncology, June 2006 January 2013. RESULTS Forty-two were re-explored. The median time initial surgery 65 days. Eighteen (43%) found inoperable due locally metastatic disease. Among 24 (57%) completion cholecystectomy, 11 developed recurrence over months. CONCLUSION Despite dismal prognosis, more than half carcinoma could receive treatment. Identification discovered early referral oncology center may ensure thereby their chances for long-term disease free survival.
