摘要: This important new book is a comparative study of social mobility based on qualitative interviews with middle-class parents in America and Britain. It addresses the key issue stratification research, namely, stability class relations reproduction. Drawing interviewee accounts how mobilised economic, cultural resources to help them into professional careers, it then considers interviewees, as parents, seek increase their children's chances educational success occupational advancement. Middle-class may try secure position but not an easy or straightforward affair. With decline quality state education increased job insecurity labour market since 1970s 1980s, reproduction advantage more difficult than affluent decades 1950s 1960s. The implications for public policy, especially investment higher education, are considered.
