REDISCOVERING THE EURASIAN OTTER (Lutra Lutra L.) IN FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA AND NOTES ON ITS POSSIBLE EXPANSION IN NORTHERN ITALY

摘要: In Italy otters occur in two small populations the South, while Alps they have been extinct for about 50 years. Austria, species is recovering and re- colonizing Southern part of country. The first record Italian goes back to 2008, when were found most upper catchment River Drau Region Trentino Alto Adige - South Tyrol. Friuli Venezia Giulia (NE Italy), 2011 2012 road killed within Tagliamento. These findings prompted an otter survey, carried out spring 2014 along Tagliamento side Slizza-Gailitz, which drains area Tarvisio joins near Villach. survey covered 3200 km 2 . A total 138 bridges 16 stretches 600 m checked river banks signs, i.e. spraints tracks. Otter signs at 27 investigated sites, Slizza-Gailitz (Drau catchment), but not Like individuals Tyrol living belong population Austria.
