摘要: This report describes the first isolation and partial characterization of a herpesvirus from harbor seal (Phoca vitulina). The virus was isolated during disease outbreak in group young seals nursed orphanage Netherlands. Almost half died with symptoms acute pneumonia focal hepatitis organs most dead animals. Seven out ten which paired serum samples were obtained showed seroconversion neutralization test this outbreak. tentatively characterized as (seal herpesvirus: SeHV or phocid 1) on basis its characteristic morphology electron microscopy, buoyant density sucrose, sensitivity to ether heat treatment antigenic relationship other probable members Alphaherpesvirinae subfamily. caused cytopathic changes within 24 hours after inoculation kidney cells, consisting rounding cells syncytium formation.
