摘要: Abstract Infection with phocine herpesvirus type-1 (PHV-1) has been associated morbidity and high mortality in neonatal harbor seals ( Phoca vitulina ). A PHV-1 specific indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed to sequentially measure the serological status of 106 seal neonates admitted a Pacific coast rehabilitation center (total number sera tested 371). Early season (February–April), majority pups had low serum levels antibody. dramatic increase antibody, involving hospitalized pups, observed during 4-week period May. This coincided incidence adrenal lesions mortality. Although there overall agreement between timing seroconversion histological evidence infection, 82.4% individual adrenalitis no humoral response at time their death. suggests either rapid disease course, or an inability develop some seals.
