摘要: It is argued that chemical modification of soft tissue implants in the hope obtaining an associated response unlikely to succeed as a method for studying fundamentals implant/tissue interactions. An alternative approach proposed which places greater emphasis on interfacial interactions (such protein adsorption) occur after implantation, manner paralleling current advances knowledge blood/material interface. From simple arguments, it observed similarities hydrophobic materials may result from irreversible adsorption, and if unusual responses are possible they likely be found only with hydrophilic implants. The possiblity critical hydrophilic/hydrophobic character implant must possess essentially adsorption also discussessed.
