摘要: The brain and the gut are engaged in continual crosstalk along a number of pathways collectively termed 'brain-gut axis'. Over recent years it has become increasingly clear that dysregulation axis at levels can result disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). With advances neuroimaging technologies, insights into neurobiology IBS beginning to emerge. However cognitive remained relatively unexplored date. In this review we summarise available data on function IBS. Moreover, specifically address three key pathophysiological factors, namely; stress, immune activation chronic pain, together with other factors involved manifestation IBS, explore how each these components may impact centrally, what neurobiological mechanisms might be involved, consider implications for functioning We conclude factor addressed could significantly impinge central nervous system function, supporting view future research efforts must directed towards detailed assessment
