摘要: Milk-alkali syndrome (MAS) consists of hypercalcemia, various degrees renal failure, and metabolic alkalosis due to ingestion large amounts calcium absorbable alkali. This was first identified after medical treatment peptic ulcer disease with milk alkali widely adopted at the beginning 20th century. With introduction histamine2 blockers proton pump inhibitors, occurrence MAS became rare; however, a resurgence has been witnessed because wide availability increasing use carbonate, mostly for osteoporosis prevention. The aim this review determine incidence, pathogenesis, histologic findings, diagnosis, clinical course MAS. A MEDLINE search performed keyword milk-alkali using PubMed engine. All relevant English language articles were reviewed. exact pathomechanism remains uncertain, but unique interplay between hypercalcemia in kidneys seems lead self-reinforcing cycle, resulting picture Treatment is supportive involves hydration withdrawal offending agents. Physicians public need be aware potential adverse effects ingesting excessive carbonate.
