摘要: Between August 1990 and September 1995 the carcases of 422 cetaceans 12 species that had died around coasts England Wales were examined. There 234 harbour porpoises ( Phocoena phocoena ), 138 common dolphins Delphinus delphis 50 individuals 10 other whales. The cause death was diagnosed in 320 (76 per cent) them. most frequent entanglement fishing gear (bycatch). Of cases which established, 66 (38 176 porpoises, 86 (80 108 dolphins, six (19 31 been bycaught. Neonatal starvation, pneumonia generalised infections accounted for a further cent causes porpoises. proportion stranded bycaught consistently high except during 1995, but increased each successive year.
