摘要: Publisher Summary The chapter discusses thyroid hormone and the optimal dose of levothyroxine for replacement therapy. Triiodothyronine is occasionally used in drug-resistant depression with occasional success, but not without side effects. problems iodine efficiency are listed. Occasional cases agranulocytosis hepatic necrosis reported. Iodine deficiency remains a worldwide health problem, affecting millions people. Although related to severe (goiter, congenital abnormalities, cretinism, such) potentially preventable by low-cost program iodizing salt, bread, milk or water distribution iodized oil, political, economic, social inertia has retarded implementation such programs. A detailed review cancer risks exposure radioiodine been published. Theoretical very difficult evaluate depend on mathematical model used. Minor effects 131-I therapy include radiothyroiditis edema, reactions rarely respond well glucocorticoids. Such can be avoided postponing severely hyperthyroid patients until antithyroid drugs have controlled disease. To avoid high incidence post-radiation hypothyroidism, graded low doses advocated.
