摘要: Many diatom species have the ability to form benthic resting stages, but importance of these stages as a supply for planktonic blooms is uncertain. A mesocosm study was carried out in December 2005 January 2006 Mangalore, India. Mesocosms were inoculated with various com- binations and/or cells, sampled from coastal SE Arabian Sea, and devel- opment community followed. Diatoms dominated phytoplankton commu- nity all mesocosms, irrespective inoculum. The most significant differences among inoculum types altered composition, timings maximum cell abundances, which lagged behind sediment mesocosms. Populations Thalassiosira initiated by both plank- ton propagules. Taxa known temperate areas seed bloom propagules, such Chaetoceros Skeletonema, predominantly seeded cells this experiment; implies differential seeding strategy within same at different latitudes. assemblage encountered plankton similar, indicates that an autochthonous flora area. High diversity mesocosms maintained throughout experimental period, although actual number fewer end. hydrographic conditions timing formation, survival, germination Sea are discussed.
