Reviewing the evidence on effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of HIV prevention strategies in Thailand

摘要: Following universal access to antiretroviral therapy in Thailand, evidence from National AIDS Spending Assessment indicates a decreasing proportion of expenditure on prevention interventions. To prompt policymakers revitalize HIV prevention, this study identifies comprehensive list HIV/AIDs preventive interventions that are likely be effective and cost-effective Thailand. A systematic review the national international literature strategies 1997 2008 was undertaken. The outcomes used consider effectiveness were changes risk behaviour incidence. Economic evaluations presented their results terms cost per infection averted or quality-adjusted life year (QALY) gained also included. All studies assessed against quality criteria. findings demonstrated school based-sex education plus life-skill programs, voluntary routine counselling testing, male condoms, street outreach needle syringe programs for mother-to-child transmission, circumcision, screening blood products donated organs HIV, increased alcohol tax all reducing among target populations manner. We found very limited local regarding amongst specific high populations. This underlines urgent need prioritise health research resources assess cost-effectiveness aimed at groups
