摘要: Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), an essential component of the antimicrobial innate immune system, is present in neutrophils and multiple other tissues. It prevents iron acquisition by microorganisms sequestering iron-loaded bacterial siderophores. NGAL also modulates neutrophil functions. Its production inducible following Toll-like receptor 4 activation release pro-inflammatory cytokines. employed clinically diagnosis acute kidney injury may be useful general differential a bacterial-mediated infectious process. Elevated levels have been detected blood patients with urinary tract infection, community-acquired pneumonia, sepsis, as well cerebrospinal fluid peritoneal meningitis peritonitis. Some bacteria developed resistance to NGAL-mediated sequestration modified siderophores that are not recognized NGAL.
