摘要: Problem Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is expressed in neutrophils and involved innate immunity by sequestering iron. NGAL's ability to complex with matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) extend its gelatinolytic activity led us investigate role pregnancies complicated preterm birth (PTB) intra-amniotic infection/inflammation (IAI). Method of study We assayed the amniotic fluid (AF) levels NGAL MMP-9 308 women that had a clinically indicated amniocentesis normal pregnancy outcome or PTB. qRT-PCR was employed determine mRNA expression placental villous trophoblast amniochorion. Immunohistochemistry used for cellular localization. Results AF were gestational age-regulated. Women IAI PTB significantly higher NGAL, NGAL•MMP-9 complex. Conclusion The amniochorion source similarly other inflammatory conditions, this protein may augment collagenolytic effect modulate host–microbe interactions IAI.
