摘要: Design: The Girls health Enrichment Multi-site Study (GEMS) involved 4 field centers which independently developed and tested interventions designed to prevent excess weight gain in African-American girls. Each center its own recruitment plan, but used a standardized reporting form. goal was recruit 40‐60 girls, depending on the center. Measures: Recruitment yields were computed at each site. Socio-demographic data status collected for 210 AfricanAmerican girls who randomized into study, as well their parents/caregivers. Data sources from participants heard about reasons interest project. Results: multiple, different, strategies. most commonly approaches mailings, flyers, radio announcements, group presentations. Caregivers likely hear program (29%), flyer school (23%), or child (18%). Among caregivers, common participating were: (56%), diet/health (51%), believing would be fun (46%). frequent reason given by that sounded like (70%). Three of met target goals. Conclusions: GEMS experience demonstrates feasibility recruiting enrolling short-term intervention studies behavior change. multiple strategies, included developing trusting relationships respective communities, considered critical success recruitment.
