摘要: Background & Aims: Infectious gastroenteritis (IGE) is known to exacerbate previously diagnosed inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, limited data are available describing a causal link between IGE and incident IBD. Methods: By using medical encounter repository of active duty military personnel, study was conducted assess IBD risk in subjects with an antecedent case IGE. Results: Between 1999 2006, there were 3019 cases 11,646 matched controls who evaluated conditional logistic regression model. To control for potential misclassification, episodes within 6 months diagnosis excluded as exposures. After adjusting confounders, episode increased the (odds ratio, 1.40; 95% confidence interval, 1.19–1.66). The slightly higher Crohn's compared ulcerative colitis. In addition, approximate 5-fold increase persons previous irritable syndrome diagnosis. Conclusions: These support theories that initiation multifactorial process might include disruption normal gut homeostatic mechanisms. Further studies warranted evaluate pathogen-specific risks, identify susceptible populations, better understand pathophysiologic relationship
