摘要: Aspiration of gastric contents by endotracheally intubated patients is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Previous studies suggest that pepsin in tracheal aspirates may be a valuable marker occult aspiration. We sought to show the sensitivity specificity new, pepsin-specific assay humans. A prospective, case-controlled study was conducted subjects serving as their own controls. After planned endotracheal nasogastric intubation for elective surgery, 20 participants had withdrawn. blinded investigator tested samples presence using assay. Positive were then pepstatin, specific inhibitor, ensure positive results due pepsin. All negative all Pepstatin halted activity samples, ensuring extremely reliable detecting
