The regional price of junk foods relative to healthy foods in the UK: indirect estimation of a time series, 1997-2009

摘要: The paper aims at indirectly estimating a time series of food prices from household expenditure data, focusing on foods considered as ‘junk’ relative to healthy foods. “big 6” among the HFSS (high in fats, sugar and salt) identified by Food Standard Agency have been selected compose target ‘unhealthy’ basket, compared ‘healthy’ benchmark aggregate including fruit vegetables. UK data National Surveys, Household Expenditure Surveys Living Costs Survey were harmonized merged set level unit values 1997 2009 for unhealthy aggregates. Well-established techniques are then employed estimate regional disentangling quality component values. analysis provides information geographical heterogeneity estimated price basket vegetable prices.
