摘要: Prenatal exposure to ethanol alters the generation of neocortical neurons; reduces numbers neurons generated between gestational day (G) 12 and G19 but paradoxically increases neuronogenesis after G19. The present study used [3H]thymidine autoradiography examine effects on proliferation cells in two cortical germinal zones, ventricular subventricular zones. Pregnant rats were fed one three diets: a liquid ethanol-containing (6.7% v/v) diet (Et), nutritionally matched isocaloric (Ct), or chow water (Ch). Fetuses administered with G13, G17, G20 killed 45–60 minutes later. Autoradiographs prepared identify radiolabeled mitotic cells. Additional brains from 13–23-day-old fetuses processed for cytoarchitectonic analyses. The size lateral ventricles was not significantly affected by prenatal exposure. Both zones evident throughout period G13 G23. In all groups, zone thickest G15 on, Et-treated thinner than those either controls. On G20, labeling index (the ratio total population) less fetuses. similar Et-, Ch-, Ct-treated most prominent during later fetal ages it thicker Moreover, indices greater controls. Thus, had different zones: inhibited, whereas stimulated. These data suggest that ethanol-induced changes result alterations proliferative activity.
