摘要: In the last 20 years otter Lutra lutra has expanded its range in south- ern part of Italian peninsula. Populations at border suffer a high risk extinction and need frequent monitoring. Here we report about survey carried out by standard method central Calabria region (Sila Massif surroundings), which cur- rently represents southern limit distribution. Otter presence been recorded for 7 31 sites (22.6%), all belonging to catchment River Savuto. A previ- ous record Neto not confirmed. total 22 spraints col- lected analysed. Salmonids (Salmo trutta) formed bulk diet (Vm% = 52.1). Damming over-fishing could represent main obstacles recolonisation area otters. Habitat management should be addressed reinforce existing population favour connection core range.
