摘要: The implementation of the European Water Framework Directive (WFD) requires evaluation ecological status (ES) benthic communities in coastal and transitional water systems, intercalibration assessment methodologies therefore becomes a research challenge. Our aim was to test suitability applying M-AMBI index assess Eo estuary (northern coast Spain). results showed that influenced by natural variability communities, presented an apparent dependence on habitat characteristics. Consequently, definition homogeneous areas systems should be based salinity gradient combined with other factors. To achieve accurate ES assessment, habitat-specific reference conditions then defined prior application M-AMBI; this necessitates dividing into several sections, which may classified as different ESs. From perspective, novel approach integrate heterogeneity global tested.
