摘要: Fatty acids (FA), mainly polyunsaturated (PUFA) of n-3 or n-6 types, may influence neuropsychobiological processes. Decreased levels PUFA have been shown to be related major depression and supplementation seems contribute improved treatment outcome. The profiles serum FA in patients with geriatric not thoroughly studied yet. present study investigated the mentally healthy elderly individuals. Serum 36 inpatients who fulfilled DSM-IV criteria for unipolar were compared those 37 control subjects. Patients depression, irrespective gender, exhibited lower total FAs, as well significantly concentrations eicosapentaenoic acid, though groups did differ regard Body Mass Index. findings point an association between depression. Further investigations larger samples dietetic interventions provide deeper insights into role acid development
