摘要: The physical properties of large single crystals long chainn-paraffins and ketones would be interest because their structural similarity to polyethylene, but simple techniques for growing from solution or the melt yield only small crystals. We have constructed a crystal apparatus using predictions Jackson's theory growth morphology as guide and, with high purity samples C23H48 C9H19COC9H19, grown centimetre dimensions. morphologies are strikingly different. hexagonal-orthorhombic phase transition in paraffin produces variable residual strain. ketone has no yields strain free crossed by narrow strained regions.
