摘要: Myxomatous mitral regurgitation (type II Carpentier's functional classification) affects about 1-2% of the population. This represents a very common indication for valve surgery resulting in low percentage repairs compared to replacement which is actually performed. In last decades, several methods repair have been developed, make surgical feasibility easier, improve long-term follow-up thus avoiding need reoperations. A interesting method represented by combination various techniques, depending on involvement anterior, posterior, or both leaflets, and use PTFE artificial chordae tendineae when excessive chordal elongation rupture due myxomatous degeneration co-exists. The aim this review summarize evolution these techniques from beginning till now.
