摘要: Understanding the mechanisms that link ornamental displays and individual condition is key to understanding evolution function of ornaments. Immune an aspect quality often associated with expression ornamentation, but a general explanation for why some ornaments seems be consistently linked immunocompetence remains elusive. We propose condition-dependent may aspects through co-dependence on mitochondrial function. Mitochondrial involvement in immune rarely considered outside biomedical literature, role mitochondria as primary energy producers cell centres biosynthesis, oxidative stress response, cellular signalling place them at hub variety pathways. A promising new mechanistic correlations between wide range traits properties ‘shared pathway’ responsible links ornament production condition. Herein, we first review both signal transducers metabolic regulators then describe connections hormonal pathways mitochondria, implications ornamentation. Finally, explore possibility directly Considering within framework has potential unify central tenets study sexual selection, eco-immunology, ecology, reproductive hormone biology, animal physiology.
