摘要: Abstract Adenosine is an endogenous purine nucleoside ubiquitously distributed throughout the body that interacts with G protein-coupled receptors, classified in four subtypes: A1R, A2AR, A2BR and A3R. Among plethora of functions adenosine, it has been increasingly recognized as a key mediator immune response. Neuroinflammation feature chronic neurodegenerative diseases contributes to pathophysiology several retinal degenerative diseases. Animal models are helping elucidate regulatory roles adenosine receptors development progression those Mounting evidence demonstrates adenosinergic system altered retina during pathological conditions, compromising physiology. This review focuses on played by elements (receptors, enzymes, transporters) neuroinflammatory processes occurring retina. An improved understanding molecular cellular mechanisms signalling pathways mediated underlying onset will pave way towards identification new therapeutic approaches.
