摘要: Abstract The pure zirconium metal was coated by plasma electrolytic oxidation in silicate containing basic electrolyte for the cumulative periods of 5, 10, 20, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 min successively total coating duration 120 min. phase content, surface morphology chemical composition PEO were characterized XRD, SEM profilometry after each time successively. equiaxed clusters unique to Zr formed on coating. number channels decreased but sizes intensities sparks increased increasing process consequently amount materials ejaculated through these increased. thickness roughness duration. presence cracks pores resulted a lower value microhardness compared theoretical ZrO 2 . Si rich radially grown crystals clearly observed from cross sectional examination intentionally created fracture surface. characterizations carried out upon successive removal this confirmed that monoclinic /tetragonal ratio not changing with thickness.
