The frequency of spontaneous flight the Queensland fruit fly. Dacus tryoni Frogg, was measured in laboratory as an indicator propensity. It examined relation to age, sex and origin flies, availability host fruit, amount adult crowding during rearing. In wild laboratory-bred flies there considerable variability among samples taken from same cage. addition, different batches differed significantly flights initiated. Flight did not alter markedly ♂ with respect or crowding. Mature ♀ increased their presence fruit. addition. ♀♀ were affected by rearing cages. Activity levels relatively consistent on consecutive days. Wild showed similar trends but total level activity lower than that laboratory-reared flies.
