Activity-Dependent Intracellular Acidification Correlates with the Duration of Seizure Activity

摘要: Synchronized neuronal activity (seizures) can appear in the presence or absence of synaptic transmission. Mechanisms seizure initiation each these conditions have been studied, but relatively few studies addressed termination. In particular, how are seizures terminated where there is no loss excitatory drive augmentation inhibitory inputs? We studied dynamic activity-dependent changes intracellular pH transmission using fluorescent indicator carboxylseminaphthorhodafluo-1. During epileptiform we observed acidification, whereas between recovered. Experimental that shortened discharge correlated with more rapid acidification. On other hand, experimental manipulation altered duration discharge, acidification resulting early termination activity. These data show a direct relationship level and seizures, suggesting an pH-dependent process terminate nonsynaptic synchronization.
