Training hospitalized patients with schizophrenia in community reintegration skills.

摘要: OBJECTIVE: The study examined the effectiveness of Community Re-Entry Program, a brief, time-limited skills training module designed to help acutely ill inpatients become engaged in community-based treatment programs. METHODS: Of 84 consecutive admissions chronic psychotic disorders unit, 44 completed assessments and attended Program. program consists 16 daily small-group therapy sessions that engage patient efforts define discharge readiness, identify symptoms medication effects, assist with planning. Skill levels positive negative were assessed on admission completion training, subsample patients received two-week postdischarge follow-up assessments. RESULTS: From discharge, diminished substantially, lesser but statistically significant degree, skill increased significantly. Posttraining level was predicted by pretraining participation module. Patients' symptom did not predict or acquisition. at also more predictive community adjustment than levels. CONCLUSIONS: Although further controlled studies are required fully establish efficacy these data suggest focused may play an important role augmenting optimal pharmacotherapy for hospitalized disorders.
