摘要: Dextromethorphan (DM) has been well-characterized as a neuroprotective agent in experimental models of CNS injury. The goal this study was to determine the profile DM military-relevant model penetrating ballistic-like brain injury (PBBI). In an acute (3 day) dose-response study, anesthetized male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed unilateral frontal PBBI with (0.156-10 mg/kg) or vehicle delivered i.v. bolus from 30 min 48 h post-injury. follow-up (7 experiment, 10-mg/kg injections administered conjunction 6-h infusion (5 mg/kg/h). alone produced dose-dependent improvement motor recovery on balance beam task at 3 days However, more rapid (24 h) observed when combined infusion. Moreover, bolus/infusion treatment regimen resulted significant (76%) cognitive performance novel object recognition (NOR) 7 Although post-injury administration (all doses) failed reduce core lesion size, maximum dose (10 effective reducing silver-stained axonal fiber degeneration cortical regions adjacent
