Evaluation of chitobiase-based estimates of biomass and production rates for developing freshwater crustacean zooplankton communities

摘要: Increasing attention has been devoted to the development of alternative (often biochemical) methods for measuring crustacean zooplankton productivity because conventional are not globally applicable and rarely practical when community-level rates required. Here we evaluate chitobiase method as a rapid, routine instantaneous freshwater communities. Chitobiase, moulting enzyme, is liberated into water following production calculated by its turnover rate in column. First, using literature-based instarand stage-specific individual body mass values, found common relationship between post-moult size (and activity) biomass produced successive moults groups. Secondly, time-series weekly measurements North-Temperate lake, good correspondence standing activity column (CBANAT) sampled plankton net laser optical counter (LOPC).
