摘要: Background Aspartame (N-L-α-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine-1-methyl ester) (ASP) is a synthetic sweetener used in foods and its safety remains controversial. The study was designed to investigate the effects of long-term administration aspartame on redox status, lipid profile biochemical indices tissues male Wistar rats. Methods Rats were assigned into four groups given distilled water (control), at doses 15 mg/kg (ASP 1), 35 2) 70 3) daily by oral gavage for consecutive 9 weeks. Results Administration ASP 2 3 significantly increased weight liver brain, relative Lipid peroxidation products kidney, brain rats all with concomitant depletion antioxidant parameters, viz. glutathione-s-transferase, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, catalase reduced glutathione. Furthermore, levels gamma glutamyl transferase 70% 85%; alanine aminotransferase 66% 117%; aspartate 21% 48%; urea 72% 58% conjugated bilirubin 63% 64%, respectively. Also, total cholesterol, triglycerides low-density lipoprotein cholesterol Histological findings showed that caused cyto-architectural changes such as degeneration, monocytes infiltration necrotic lesions kidney Conclusions may induce imbalance via mechanism involves oxidative stress glutathione-dependent system.
