摘要: Actinomycetes can produce significant amounts of the earthy-muddy odour compounds geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB). These filamentous bacteria are found in both terrestrial aquatic environments, particularly abundant soil. They enter freshwater systems via runoff subsequently cause taste outbreaks drinking water. Since it is well known that actinomycete growth production modified strongly by environmental factors such as moisture nutrient levels, we hypothesized watershed stream characteristics should influence potential impact soil on surface In this study, 1) relationship between abundance discharge, turbidity Escherichia coli levels was investigated, 2) actinomycetes from contrasting sources were examined for differences their MIB production. sampled Elbow River, an important water source City Calgary (Alberta, Canada), three tributary streams. forested regions agricultural land tested compound Actinomycete streams to correlate closely with E. a lesser extent turbidity, suggesting fecal contamination.
