摘要: Decades of research into stress responses have highlighted large variation among individuals, populations, and species, the sources this been a center across disciplines. The most common measure vertebrate response is glucocorticoids. However, predictive power glucocorticoid to fitness surprisingly low. This partly because hormone levels rapidly change in stressor exposure elevated at one time point can indicate either that glucocorticoids are helping organism cope with or dysregulation release harming organism. Meaning, consequences depends on how efficient negating harmful impacts stressors cells tissues. To encompass idea efficiency integrate cellular organismal responses, new theoretical model called Damage-Fitness Model was developed. focuses downstream effects predicts accumulation damage tissues (e.g., persistent proteins, lipids, DNA) negatively components. In mini-review, we examine evidence supporting explore directions forward.
