摘要: SV40 was discovered as a contaminant of poliovirus vaccines that were inadvertently administered to millions people in Europe and the United States between 1955 1963. Shortly afterwards, proven be oncogenic rodents capable transforming human animal cells vitro. The possibility might cause tumours humans thus became subject scientific public interest scrutiny. However, largely due lack significant epidemiological evidence, assessing SV40's potential carcinogenic role diminished. Recently, many laboratories have reported presence SV40-like DNA high proportion mesotheliomas, ependymomas osteosarcoma (the three main types caused by virus hamsters), renewing question whether tumour virus. Molecular data from these studies are reviewed re-evaluate carcinogen.
