摘要: Abstract Background Many people with bipolar disorder (BD) in the community are misdiagnosed major depressive (MDD). A probabilistic model has been proposed to assist identification of BD among patients symptoms, however there limited population-based data on key distinguishers from MDD. The objective this study was identify MDD a sample. Methods Population-based were extracted Canadian Community Health Survey: Mental and Well-Being. Sociodemographic variables, clinical symptomatology compared between subjects ( N = 467) = 4145). Logistic regression analysis used significant correlates BD, areas under receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) determined for each model. Results differed across number characteristics. Clinical variables significantly associated included greater lifetime episodes, earlier age first episode, anxiety disorder, problematic substance use, suicide attempt. Symptoms more common during episode agitation, suicidal ideation, anxious irritability. AUCs these models ranged 0.72 0.81. Limitations Data not available all potential distinguishers; subgroups could be determined; cross-sectional data. Conclusions These results reinforce effort establish generalizable that incorporates symptom order clinicians diagnostic assessment BD.
