摘要: Cytoarchitectonic area TA1 (von Economo) in the cortex of planum temporale within Sylvian fissure, which is auditory association and documented to be part neural substrate language functions, was studied quantitatively brain specimens five women four men (mean age 50 year). All cases were medically cognitively normal, consistently right-handed. We investigated possibility that difference size between reflected differences numerical density neurons TA1, an associated with morphologic psychological sex differences. Neuron counts made directly through cell differentiation under microscope from Nissl-stained sections. Cortical depth, number depth 1 mm2 cortical surface (Nc), per unit volume (Nv) obtained for total each six layers hemisphere. For both hemispheres, Nc similar, but Nv greater by 11% women, no overlap scores sexes. The attributable II IV; contrast, did not differ sexes III, V, VI. This first report such a human cortex. results suggest functional has different ratio input output components could have implications cognition behavior. Due small sample homogeneity studied, generalizability requires replication other studies. In addition, cytoarchitectonic mapping indicated also occurs vertical posterior wall providing evidence anatomical definition should include superior temporal gyrus.
