摘要: BACKGROUND: Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) is a common disorder that affects children worldwide. It usually caused by viral agents, including rotavirus, enteric adenovirus, norovirus, and astrovirus groups. Currently, there are few reports about co-infection among these viruses, mainly in Brazil. METHODS: This retrospective study which 84 rotavirus-positive samples from hospitalized patients at teaching hospital Southern Brazil, collected the 2001-2010 period, were analyzed polymerase chain reaction (PCR) reverse transcription - (RT-PCR), for investigation of astrovirus, norovirus. RESULTS: In total, 12 (14%) positive to adenovirus or Clinical, laboratory, demographic data showed statistically significant differences between mono co-infected patients, age depletion rate. CONCLUSIONS: These findings highlight need implementation other virus detection assays clinical diagnosis complete laboratory pediatric with AGE, order understand impact pathogens on disease severity, spread within hospital, consequently, prevent dissemination nosocomial infections.
